Shun Shifu Michael Yerzy is a second degree black belt in Moore’s Shou’ Shu’. Passionate about sharing health and fitness with people his whole life, it is fitting that he is now teaching skills that also benefits a person’s safety as well.
Growing up in Salinas, CA, Shun Shifu Yerzy faced bullies. It was through his training in Judo that he developed the confidence to stand up for himself, a sense of honor, and the ability to focus in school.
After college, he worked in the fitness industry for over 6 years, only to come the realization that he was still not comfortable in his own skin. “Deep down inside, I was still afraid, and knew I couldn’t handle myself if I had to defend myself or loved ones.” In 2012, he came across Moore’s Shou’ Shu’ and began to develop his mind and body through the rigors of martial arts training.
In 2017, Shun Shifu Yerzy began teaching professionally with the blessing of his Shifu and the support of the teachers in the Moore’s community. He is also conversant in BJJ and is certified in Combative Grappling.
Ultimately, Shun Shifu Yerzy is committed to having everyone who studies under him to be able to protect themselves. “We no longer have any reason to be victim to circumstances,” he says. “I want everyone to have access to what I have. Martial arts really does support every facet of life.”
When not in the Academy, you can find Shun Shifu Yerzy sharing new BBQ recipes with friends, skiing the slopes or chasing a golf ball on manicured lawns.

My name is Andrew Young I am a second-degree black belt in the Moore’s Shou Shu system. I have been studying Moore’s Shou Shu for 10 years. I am currently working on my second degree which I have been working on for 4 years. Our second degree is Tiger style. Our system being based off animal forms. The main reason why I started martial arts was right before I turned 30, I wanted to be able to get back in shape. I wasn’t going to be one of those people that felt everything was down hill after 30. After I joined Moore’s Shou Shu, right away I felt the change in my physicality. I kept with it and the longer I did it the better I felt. It has helped with my joint issues, and at 38 I feel in the best shape ever.
One of the great things about this system is the longer you go, you start to teach. With teaching it helps bring your martial arts to another level. It’s also a good feeling watching people gain confidence in their life through martial arts. The longer I did Moore’s Shou Shu the more interested I got in martial arts in general. I have studied Judo, Wing Chung, and Hayastan grappling.
It’s a great feeling to help my local community get in better shape and have focus. Our school is great for kids and adults, and the whole family for that matter. If you have hyperactive children (i.e., kids being kids) bring them down for a class and at the end of it they’ll be cool, calm and focused. Hope to see you at our school soon. Have a good day.
